About us

Xou Yang

Clinical Mental Health Counselor

I am licensed in Utah and Massachusetts

My name is pronounced 'Sue', like the song "A Boy Named Sue" by Johnny Cash.  I work with people with the following concerns: anxiety and stress management, trauma (religious/familial/PTSD), pornography addiction, relationship issues, and men's issues.  As a therapist, I want to assist you on achieving your goals and to help you live a happy life with the people you love; this can include healthier relationships with your spouse, other family members, or and increased self-respect and self-worth.

In my free time, in addition to spending time with my family, I enjoy doing activities such as playing boardgames with friends, cycling, playing disc golf, or exercising. On occasion I enjoy learning new things, such as playing musical instruments.

Therapy Services

In the complex landscape of mental health treatment, various therapeutic approaches provide vital tools for individuals seeking improvement and healing. Together, these approaches not only promote a deeper understanding of emotional and psychological challenges but also equip clients with practical skills to navigate life's complexities more effectively.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured and evidence-based approach that targets the interconnections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, empowering clients to challenge and modify negative thought patterns.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), originally developed for individuals with borderline personality disorder, incorporates mindfulness strategies with cognitive techniques to enhance emotional regulation and improve interpersonal effectiveness.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) offers a unique modality specifically designed to address trauma and PTSD by processing distressing memories using bilateral stimulation, enabling clients to reframe their past experiences.

Mindfulness involves cultivating present-moment awareness and acceptance, helping individuals manage stress and emotional reactivity through techniques that foster a non-judgmental relationship with their thoughts and feelings.

Supportive Therapy, also known as supportive psychotherapy, is a therapeutic approach focused on providing emotional support, encouragement, and practical guidance to help individuals cope with life’s challenges and manage mental health symptoms in a safe, empathetic, and nonjudgmental environment.

"Xou is very understanding. He asks great questions and gets to know me and my situation. He has been great in helping me identify and problem solve the things I am going through."

"Xou is very professional, takes the time to care about my needs and concerns. Punctual, experienced and polite. I feel very good talking to him, like I've known him for a long time!"

"Xou listens to and addresses all of my concerns and topics I want to discuss, he sends me exercises outside of our calls, he checks up on me throughout the week, and he goes back to topics from other sessions. I really feel understood by him and that he cares about what we talk about."

"Xou listens very well and hella me feel heard. More importantly, he offers real advice and real-time scenarios and examples to help me understand and work on. So far so good, I have a lot of confidence in him and it’s already starting to trickle into my day to day. Doesn’t fluff, but really wants to help and offers good advice."

"Very helpful coping skills were learned through my experience with "Sue". It was nice to have someone listen to my concerns. I highly recommend."
